While on our cruise we took an excursion to the Mayan Ruins at Chacchoben while the ship was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico. The ruins were about an hour bus ride from the cruise port. The ruins at Chacchoben date from about 700 AD. The site has only been open to the public since 2002 and many of the ruins are still buried under large mounds of dirt, tree, and plants. We were there in the morning so the sun was not at the best angle for taking pictures, but I did my best!

The Mayans built a large plateau where they built their most important temples. These are the steps up to that plateau. They are quite steep!

Most important temple at this settlement. Twice a year, on the equinox, the sun rises directly over the top.

These are the remains of homes which are in set in a square.
In other news, we are now all happily settled back into our routines. Will and I went to the grocery store and the library this morning. After his nap we were able to go for a walk with Baxter and play outside for a little bit (Will LOVES walking around outside). I will try to post again soon with some updated photos of him!
